Tragic Young Love

Two or three months ago I watched the news on television and they talked about a Mattayom 5 boy who poured petrol on his girlfriends face and set light to her because she had told him she did not want to go out with him anymore. She survived but is very badly scarred. He did this in the canteen in front of everyone. His parents were very shocked. They said he was a good boy who had not been violent before and even her parents did not think he would ever do something so violent. What a tragedy. The girl is scarred for life and the boy is in jail. Two young people have had their lives ruined. How could this happen? I can not understand it. Why was the boy so serious about a young romance? Did he not know that he could find another girlfriend? Or is it more than that? Is it because schools and teenagers are becoming more violent? Many times I have seen reports about teenage gangs fighting with other schools.
The story made me very sad because I think it should not have happened. I think it could have been avoided. Surely someone like his family or friends or even his teachers could have seen this problem coming and could have helped the boy before he did this terrible thing. Being a teenager can be a difficult time. Many teenagers are confused about their emotions and often can not see past their own immediate problems. The boy needed help and advice to make him understand that young love can be difficult. Somebody should have told him that he could have found happiness again with another girl. Young people need help and understanding to help them through the difficult teenage years. What do you think?
Is there any way this tragedy could have been avoided and is there a way to prevent something like this happening again?

What a waste!

It will be Songkran time again soon. What does it mean? Lots of people throwing water and having fun. But I can’t stop myself thinking of the hundreds of people who will die in road accidents again, just as hundreds died last year and the year before that. And it is not just at Songkran time, it is during every big holiday festival. Most of the people who die are young people. They die before they can live their lives. Who knows what these young people could have done if they had not died early. Every year we see the numbers of dead and injured printed in a newspaper or on the television. But they are not just a statistic, they are real people and their deaths are completely unnecessary. How many of us know someone who had died on a motorcycle or in a car?

I think we all know people who have died early in their lives. Something must be done to stop this. Every year the government and the police say they will do this or do that, but it can not be working because every year hundreds and hundreds die. How can we educate people so that they know not to drink alcohol and then ride their bikes or drive their cars. They need to know how important it is to wear a crash helmet on a motorbike. It is against the law to drink alcohol and drive a car or ride a bike. It is against the law to ride a bike without a helmet. But people are still doing it. Everyday you see people doing stupid things on their bikes or in their cars. Why are these laws not strictly enforced?

If the police really did enforce these laws, think of the money that could be raised by fining people and then this money could be used to educate people of all ages about the need to be safe on the road. Then maybe we might be able to stop this stupid waste of life.

What do you think about this? Let' s share some opinions.
