Two or three months ago I watched the news on television and they talked about a Mattayom 5 boy who poured petrol on his girlfriends face and set light to her because she had told him she did not want to go out with him anymore. She survived but is very badly scarred. He did this in the canteen in front of everyone. His parents were very shocked. They said he was a good boy who had not been violent before and even her parents did not think he would ever do something so violent. What a tragedy. The girl is scarred for life and the boy is in jail. Two young people have had their lives ruined. How could this happen? I can not understand it. Why was the boy so serious about a young romance? Did he not know that he could find another girlfriend? Or is it more than that? Is it because schools and teenagers are becoming more violent? Many times I have seen reports about teenage gangs fighting with other schools.
The story made me very sad because I think it should not have happened. I think it could have been avoided. Surely someone like his family or friends or even his teachers could have seen this problem coming and could have helped the boy before he did this terrible thing. Being a teenager can be a difficult time. Many teenagers are confused about their emotions and often can not see past their own immediate problems. The boy needed help and advice to make him understand that young love can be difficult. Somebody should have told him that he could have found happiness again with another girl. Young people need help and understanding to help them through the difficult teenage years. What do you think? Is there any way this tragedy could have been avoided and is there a way to prevent something like this happening again?
